## First things first: What is Oktoberfest?

Officially known as the "Wiesn," Oktoberfest is a 16- to 18-day festival held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It's the world's largest Volksfest (people's festival), with more than 6 million people attending every year. And yes, it celebrates beer. Lots and lots of beer.

Heidi Heidorn is one of those lucky 6 million people. The 25-year-old from Düsseldorf has attended Oktoberfest for the past six years and has racked up some serious mileage — she's visited the festivities in Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam. This year, she's ventured to Prague for the first time to celebrate with friends.

We asked Heidi about her tips for having a great time at Oktoberfest. Here's what she had to say:

Heads or Tails?

The most important question: Which side of the coin do you choose when deciding which beer to order? Heidi says there are pros and cons to both choices.

If you choose heads, you might get a new type of beer that you haven't tried before. But there's also a risk that you won't like it and will end up wasting a whole stein (about 1 liter). Tails almost always guarantees a classic German bier like Spaten or Augustiner, but there's always the chance that it might be your last drink of the day if the keg runs out.

The Traditional Route: Hofbräuhaus München

For Heidi, one of the must-dos each year is visiting Hofbräuhaus München, the original and most famous brewery at Oktoberfest. Located just opposite Munich Central Station, it offers an impressive array of traditional German dishes and 16 Hofbräuhaus beers on tap. Just be prepared for the crowds!

If you can't make it to Munich, Hofbräuhaus locations can be found all over Germany (and even in some U.S. cities) – just look for the large yellow building with the green logo boasting a crown and "HB."

How to Play Heidi at Oktoberfest

To begin, each player gets a beer stein and fills it with beer. Then, everyone stands in a circle and places their steins on the ground in front of them with the opening facing up. The object of the game is to flick your beer stein so that it flips over your opponents' steins. If your opponent's beer spills, they have to drink it!

The game starts with someone saying "Heidi" and then flicking their stein. If nobody else flicks their stein before the victim drinks their beer, then that player becomes the next one to say "Heidi" and flick their stein. The game continues until somebody either spills their beer or misses flipping over another player's stein.

If you want to make things more interesting, you can add a rule that says if you spill your beer, you have to finish your entire stein! This will definitely make for an interesting game!

Heidi at Oktoberfest: Let the Games Begin!

The much anticipated Oktoberfest has finally arrived! Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, Oktoberfest is one of the most famous beer festivals in the world. And this year, Heidi is excited to be one of the participants!

Heidi has been looking forward to Oktoberfest for months. She has planned her outfit and decorated her apartment in honor of the event. She even brewed a special batch of beer just for the occasion.

On October 1st, the festival officially begins. Heidi is so excited that she can hardly wait! She arrives at the festival grounds early and joins the other revelers in enjoying a cold beverage or two.
